What to see and to do around Danta di Cadore

Comelico Valley and the Dolomites

Danta di Cadore

Located at an altitude of 1400 metres, Danta di Cadore enjoys a privileged exposure to the sun and an almost intact natural environment, covered over vast areas by dense coniferous forests: mainly fir and larch.

It offers naturalistic elements of great interest for the multiple biodiversities present in its territory and panoramic viewpoints of exceptional beauty. The crown of mountains that surrounds it without towering over it gives it a touch of royalty and allows a face-to-face relationship with its peaks.

All around the village is a succession of woods and green meadows that, from May onwards, are filled with flowers, gradually changing hues. Almost all of the protected alpine flora and an extraordinary number of wild orchids can be found here. Danta offers visitors the face of an ancient and austere village, silent and with very little traffic.

The Torbiere

The Torbiere of Danta di Cadore are one of the most important natural sites of the Veneto region. The starting point is the Provincial Road 6, which connects Danta to Auronzo di Cadore. In the first stretch, in correspondence of the Torbiera Soligena, you bump into willows and rushes in expansion. Later you enter a wood of white and red firs, where you can also find some scots pines and junipers, but most of all you can admire the so called Sfagni, i.d. mosses which develope thanks to the high acidity of the land. Moreover you can find coloured flowers and red berries, which are not edible, sprinkling this sort of carpet. More difficult to identify is the Drosera, a pitcher plant which is typical of the Torbiere.

A Mountain Suitable for the Whole Family

Val Comelico is a very green valley that has much to offer families: easy trails, flat walks, natural attractions. Val Comelico is also strategically located because it is close to both Alto Adige and the Friulian Dolomites. It is therefore an excellent starting point for other excursions in the surrounding area.

In winter, too, it is possible to please both young and old: everyone can learn to ski with the local instructors, but also ice skate, have fun on inflatable boats, and visit the Christmas markets.

The Winter Paradise

Not only skiing in winter! If you enjoy immersive walks in the Comelico nature, you will also love doing them in the snow! Try trekking in the snowy landscape or help yourself to snowshoes! The valley is the ideal place for a snowshoeing trip in the midst of a surreally calm landscape, as well as for an outing with friends having fun ‘floating’ in the snow.

You can also go skating with your whole family, or try your hand at dog sledding!
